WAH-SHAN SPRING NEWSLETTER

Parents and all friends,

From winter to spring, stepping into the Year of Monkey, it is the time for summary and review. Last year, our school made certain achievements on academic, sports and arts. Hope in the new school year our school can achieve better results, and we actively explore students’ talents and highlights in all aspects.

The following are our school’s recent information on various activities, which enrich the New Year joy.

Students’ highlights

Academic:

  • “The 67th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival – Cantonese Speech” So Ting Chun (S.5) obtained Second Runner-up in Poem Speaking. Fifteen classmates obtained Certificate of Merit in junior and senior groups.
  • “The 67th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival – Putonghua Speech” Four classmates are awarded the Certificates of Merit in Prose Speaking in junior and senior groups.
  • “The 67th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival – Girls English Speech” Jessie Jireh (S.1) is awarded the Champion in English Solo Verse Speaking and the Second Runner-up in English Prose Speaking. Paguyo Giselle Giorgia R (S.3) is awarded the First Runner-up in English Solo Verse Speaking. Gonzales Gia Toscah (S.3) is awarded the Second Runner-up in English Solo Verse Speaking. Brazil Mikaela Darlene Buhia (S.4) is awarded the First Runner-up in English Prose Speaking. Yiu Lok Wai (S.5) is awarded the Second Runner-up in English Prose Speaking.
  • Thirty-eight classmates are awarded Certificates of Merit in English Speaking and English Prose Speaking with excellent performance.
  • “The 67th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival – Boys English Speech” Sarreal Josh Gerald (S.2) is awarded the First Runner-up in English Prose Speaking. Syed Mohamed Mobeen (S.3) is awarded the First Runner-up in English Solo Verse Speaking. Yiu Chun Hei (S.6) is awarded the First Runner-up and Second Runner-up in English Solo Verse Speaking. Nine classmates are awarded Certificates of Merit in English Speaking and English Prose Speaking.
  • “The 4th Model Solar Boat Challenge 2015” Ho Ching Hang (S.5) is awarded the Champion in the Individual Speed Competition. Our school obtained both Excellence Award in Team Competition and Outstanding Award in Group Competition.

Sports and Arts:

  • Choy Mei Yee (S.6) is awarded the “Three-Dimensional Work” group award in the “Exhibition of Secondary School Students’ Creative Visual Arts Work”.
  • Our school is awarded the Champion in Boys A Grade and the First Runner-up in Boys B Grade in the Inter-School Basketball (Hong Kong Island Division One) of “The Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation”.
  •  Our school is awarded the Second Runner-up in Boys Overall in All Hong Kong Schools Jing Ying Basketball Tournament of “The Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation”. Chu Ho Man (S.6) is awarded the Boys Best Assists Prize. Koo Ka Kui (S.6) is awarded the Boys Best 2-Points Prize. Deng Zhongjia (S.4) is awarded the Best Steals Prize.
  • Our school is awarded The Best Biology Photography Award by the Tai Tam Tuk Foundation in “Hong Kong BioBlitz”.
  • Our school is awarded the Champion in “The Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China Footprint Scheme”.

School’s Special:

  • A total of 10 classmates in S.4 and S.5 together with one teacher participated in the Nanjing Historical and Cultural Adventure in December. Teachers and students expressed that they have deeper understanding on the home country’s history and culture.
  • The Career and Life Planning Expo for the Non-Chinese Speaking students was held in November. The “Experience Integration!” One-Day Outdoor Integrated Programme was held in mid to late January. Activities such as making glutinous rice cake and exploring the flower market were organized. These strengthen the horizon of Non-Chinese Speaking students and their sense of belonging to the school.

Linking Heart to the Community:

  • Our school organized the Community Chest Dress Casual Day on 8th October, which let students to express their social caring heart.
  • Our school organized the Blood Donation Day on 5th November and receive students’ overwhelming responses.
  • “Volunteer team” organized external voluntary service for S.1 to S.5 students, lead students to take part in the Planting activities in late October, visit to solitary elderly people in December, and distribute cookies to scavengers. Besides, the S.4 external voluntary service team visited the Haven of Hope Woo Ping Care & Attention Home on 17th December, and show students’ earnest care to the society.

Conclusion

In the first term of 2015/16, students in our school demonstrated their superior talent in various aspects including academic, sports and arts. In the second term, I look forward to all teachers and students on “ascending another story to see a thousand miles”, and bring more good news to you all.
